Tommy was on TV tonight. I haven't watched it since 1975 when I saw it in the theatre and was too young and too impressionable. I loved it tonight. It brought back so many memories, and the really weird thing was that I remembered all the words to all the songs. Talk about making an impression. And the cast; Roger Daltrey, Ann-Margret, Oliver Reed, Tina Turner, Elton John, Eric Clapton, Jack Nicholson, and of course, The Who; can't get much better than that.
I think serious drugs are required for the Tina Turner bit -- The Acid Queen ("if this boy ain't right, just give me one more night" -- OMG) -- but red wine did the trick.
The movie it completely cheesy from a 2009 perspective, but it's a gem regardless.
Ann-Margret was a HUGE sex symbol in the 70s and the above bit just proves it. If you can be sexy with pork'n'beans you can be sexy anytime.
And then there is Jack...
Roger Daltrey's most spaced out performance to date (even including his appearance on Highlander in the 90s)
He was so hot back then (and I admit I still find him hot in this scene), but who runs like that?
I think Tommy just might be the first movie length music video. Watching the movie again it seems that each song is its video and they've all been put together to make a movie with the central theme being Tommy. Yet each song on its own is worth a watch and listen.
