post script...

...saw the smiling woman on the bus today and I handed over my precious copy of What the Dogs Have Taught Me under the condition that when she's finished reading it, she pass it along to another dog-loving-book-reading stranger -- AND -- that she has to promise to buy Merrill Markoe's latest work. In fact, if you love dogs, handymen, California, commitaphobes (who doesn't love them?), vegans and identity crises you should buy this book. If you ever wanted to talk to the animals like Dr. Doolittle or just ask your dog why she likes to shred paper, then you should buy this book.

Yes, I know, it's still only in hard cover, but get over it. Spend the money. It's worth every penny. It will keep you at home where you should be, not out at the bars, blowing all your money while losing your self-respect. In fact buying this book in hardcover will save you money. You'll be a happier person.
